Yesterday I decided to take a walk around downtown Phoenix looking for stuff to shoot while thinking about all the history and growth that’s happened here in the relatively short span of 100 years.
I stopped at the San Carlos Hotel at the corner of Central and Monroe, went into the cafe and bought some coffee and a fat free donut (I wish), found a table outside and just began shooting where I was sitting. This is me contemplating Arizona’s past.
I often go walking around downtown as well. Next time you are down there, let me know. I owe you a lunch.
Hi, Rick,
I just found out about your blog today through a post on http://www.lighting-essentials.com/
I am amazed at your skills and style. The lighting is spot on, the textures are perfect, and I love the angles and your lighting direction. But what really blows me away is your precise use of depth of field.
For the food photography, what f-stop and focal length do you usually find yourself using? And do you prefer zoom, macro, or fixed lenses?
In your “behind the scenes” shots, it looks like you have a boatload of lighting and light-modifying equipment, so I’m guessing that’s what enables you to shoot at any f-stop you choose.
And thanks for the blog. I enjoyed every page of it!
